Nav Editor lets teams manage Paymenter’s navigation without touching code. Through a navigation manager, admins can reorder links, build nested menus, and publish custom landing pages that respect the active theme. Icon validation, slug management, and route registration are handled automatically, keeping the front-end consistent and safe.

Key Capabilities

  • Centralized navigation manager with drag-and-drop ordering, enable toggles, and parent-child hierarchies.
  • Support for three link destinations: internal application routes, external URLs (with redirect tracking), and fully custom pages rendered through the current theme.
  • Markdown-enabled custom pages that inherit typography, spacing, and iconography from the theme layout.
  • Built-in Remix icon sanitation and verification so menu icons always resolve to valid assets.
  • Route bootstrapping that registers new Laravel routes only when corresponding links exist, preventing collisions.
  • Automatic pruning of disabled links and loop protection when building nested navigation trees.

Workflow at a Glance

  1. Enable the Extension – install Nav Editor
  2. Configure Links – visit Administration → Extensions → Navigation Manager to add top-level links, assign parents for dropdowns, and set sort order priorities.
  3. Select Destinations – choose between an application route (with optional parameters and SPA toggles), an external URL (with new-tab support), or a custom page (Markdown content stored alongside the link).
  4. Review Icons & Visibility – sanitize icon names, add separators where needed, and toggle visibility without deleting records.
  5. Publish Navigation – the extension listens for the global navigation event to build the live menu. Enabled links appear immediately; new custom pages are registered under

Concepts & Components

  • NavigationLink Model – stores label, slug, destination details, icon, visibility, ordering, parent-child relationships, and optional Markdown content.
  • NavigationLinkResource – the Filament resource powering list, create, and edit screens. It enforces slug uniqueness, icon validation, and prevents invalid route or URL configurations.
  • IconNormalizer – strips invalid characters, enforces ri- prefixes, and ensures icons exist in the Remix set; links are auto-repaired during boot if legacy or manual values drift.
  • Custom Page View – renders resources/views/pages/custom.blade.php inside the active theme layout, passing the link label as the page title and injecting Markdown-output content.
  • Route Registration – custom pages and external redirects are registered at runtime, guarded by slug checks to avoid naming collisions and ensure only valid routes are exposed.

Roles & Access

Grant administrators the relevant Filament permissions so they can see and manage the Navigation Manager resource. Without access, the menu entry under the Extensions group remains hidden, though the front-end navigation continues to respect existing links.
